The sight of Sagrat Cor Church has been taunting me since our first EMUVE visit to Barcelona back in September. Sitting high above the city ontop of a hill, you can see it from most areas of the city. So with our final weekend in Barcelona indicating the end of our stay, I was determined to pay the hill of Tibidabo a visit.

The views from the top were worth the trek up from the funicular railway station. We were lucky enough to have a clear view of the whole of the city, from the airport in the South all the way past Besos power station in the North and beyond to the mountains towards France. It also provided a view down beyond the mountains which restrains Barcelona’s urban fabric from sprawling inland to the inland plain and the towns nestled below the mountains.

Tibidabo hosts an amusement park with rides galore, which has been on this site since 1899. The ferris wheel, from the views alone, can rival the London eye! The mountain top also hosts the Torre de Collserola telecommunications tower, designed by Foster and Partners for the 1992 Olympic Games, and of course the church which is what tempted me up the hill in the first place. The church was constructed in the early 1900s and crowned with a statue of Jesus, which of course we climbed up to! The views from this view point were even more impressive! Tibidabo is most definitely one of my favourite places in the whole city.
