The Eiffel Bridge | Girona

After an exhausting week of research, half the EMUVE team travelled to Girona, which is a hour North East of Barcelona by train.

Out of the eleven bridges Girona boasts, our favourite by far and perhaps the most famous, is the Pont de Ferro or Pont Eiffel. It was built by Gustave Eiffel et Companie in 1877, before he built the Eiffel Tower.

The pedestrian bridge stretches over the river Onyar, where four rivers meet and is beautifully constructed out of steel. Its industrial robustness and bold red paint is juxtaposed against the soft autumnal pallets of the surrounding houses overhanging the river or the winding stone cobbled streets of the Jewish Quarter. Yet somehow, it sits comfortably and perfectly coupled with its surroundings.

One of our favourite details were the dual lights across the top structure of the bridge. Old and cobwebbed, they give a soft illumination into the night and allow the cross hatch shadow of the bridges structure to continue, move and imprint across the bridge continually.
