One of the many pioneering design institutes in Poblenou is the Iaac (Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalunya). It is a space for learning through making, and is full of experimental manufacturing machinery and fascinating models. Alongside making workshops that are open to the public, there is a lecture series that hosts a variety of architects and designers.

We were lucky enough to see Alfredo Brillembourg (one half of Urban Think Tank) describing the work that his practice has been engaged since its inception.
It was a captivating performance, which started with a rhapsody on the political duty of the architect and urban life in Caracas, then went on to cite examples of interventions that U-TT have implemented in various socially and economically deprived urban contexts.
We all came away from the night feeling empowered as (soon to be) architects.
