We travelled to Santa Coloma de Cervelló, an expected gem on our search for Gaudi's crypt (see Alice's blog post). It is an industrial village 23km south-west of Barcelona which was designed at the end of the 19th century by the Güell family. Social protests forced the family to move their textile factory to this village and design amenities allowing an improvement of quality of life for the workers.

The textile mill closed in 1973 because of the crisis in the sector and since then has been undergoing rennovations and preservations on more than 20 buildings in the Colònia Güell.

The photos featured below are examples of housing found in the village with beautiful brickwork facades and detailing. The islamic style construction aesthetics gives the village a unique personality which amazes visitors every time.
