Exploring Poblenou

Our urban exploration began by walking through North East Poblenou, where the remanants of disused factories meets new industry. Without the Cerda plan and chamfered street corners, the area feels less like a community and more of a thoroughfare for cars and buses. Roads are wider, pavements are fragmented by workshop activities, and cafes and places to pause are few and far between.

Communities are fragmented into small pockets, sometimes occupying a single block, divided by empty plots and abandonded warehouses.

The people on the streets are looking for scrap metal, selling scrap in intermittent warehouses and selling gas. At 3pm, a flurry of workers head to local cafes for coffee and lunch, and we retired to a pavement cafe for an informal discussion regarding the next step of our work.
