Engaging the locals of Poblenou

Today we set out to question the conclusions we made last term whilst working from afar in Cardiff. This was, at the time, the bit we found the most tricky to justify. In considering the idea of governance, and advocating a bottom up approach, it seemed contradictory for us to deliever a masterplan and enforce identity on an area from another country. So this was it, our time to go 'out in the field' and engage with the local population.

We enlisted the help of Raquel from ETSAB to help with the language barriers and established a list of questions to determine who lives and works in poblenou, how long they have been here, what they like about the area and one thing they would like to change.

One of our favourite encounters was with Mari Carmen who is a retired resident of the area who currently lives out of her van. It all went a little off topic as we ate pipas with her and discussed her favourite English music (if your wondering: Beatles, Supertramp and even Justin Bieber - not even English!!).

Meeting the locals really opened us up to the everyday life of the area both validating some of our initial opinions and furthering our understanding of the complex territories of the wider area.
